Whilst the CourseDirector grading function was not initially designed to divide assessed materials (tests, assignments, presentations etc...) into specific categories after a recent upgrade this effect can now be achieved in the following manner;
Firstly from the normal grading entry screen instead of entering the assignment name enter the category name, for example "Quizzes". Then proceed to enter grades in the standard manner as shown below. Note that in this case we have given the "Grading Weight %" as 33.33%. This is because in this particular example we will have three categories each contributing equal value to the final grade. When setting up your live version you may add as many categories as you wish and assign any weighting value that fulfills your requirements.
In the future after further assessment it is possible to add further "scores" by firstly reopening the category (which is done by clicking the category name on the main grading screen.) then adding a comma and inserting the next score beside the origninal as shown below.
Important Note: When using this function it is necessary that you maintain a consistent scoring system within each category. That means in the beginning when you select "Maximum score" all assessed materials within that category must be graded using the same maximum score. For example in the case above we used a maximum score of 100, so all subsequent marks must also be as a percentage. (ie. out of 100.) You may choose whatever maximum score you wish as long as you then grade all work as a score out of the maximum.
For different categories you may choose different maximum scores, but within categories you must maintain consistency.
